DP II - Cable Laying Barge

The Atalanti is a Cable Laying Barge (CLB) that has been specially designed and engineered for cable laying and protection works in shallow waters, which are not normally accessible by large cable laying vessels. The widened hull design makes it possible for the vessel to handle at least 4,500 tons of cable in one or two electro-hydraulically operated Turn Tables, on a maximum draught of 4.26 meters. The vast area of the Main Deck combined with the deck load capacity of 15 t/m2 and the two powerful marine/offshore cranes offer flexibility for any cable lay and/or protection work and installation. The vessel can accommodate a total of 77 persons in high European – Standard accommodation spaces offering ideal hotel facilities for lengthy projects in remote areas of the world.

The vessel is fitted with a state-of-the-art Dynamic Positioning System, provided in full by Kongsberg Marine, including all software and hardware. This system controls the vessel’s five (5) 1,000 HP Azimuthing thrusters and one (1) 2,400 HP Voith Schneider Propulsor which, in combination with the other machinery and electrical systems installed, is certified by the American Bureau of Shipping as a DP-Class II system.

The vessel also features two (2) specially designed “spud cans” for position keeping redundancy while operating in shallow waters and a 4-point mooring system consisting in four 30-Ton pull anchor handling winches (2 fore and 2 aft) each fitted with 800m of wire rope and a 5t Flipper-Delta anchor.
